The Law of Dominance

To continue our series on the Universal Laws governing hypnotic influence, this month we will discuss the Law of Dominance.

The Law of Dominance can be described as a position of authority so that commands are taken in more readily. This can be accomplished by establishing strong rapport with the client and demonstrating your knowledge and skill, to create your position of authority in the hypnotic process.

The hierarchy of authority has manifested authority throughout our lives. Starting with our parents, and then moving to our teachers, and eventually our bosses, political leaders, Law Enforcement, etc. So one way that the Law of Dominance provides influence is inherently through the position you hold, and whether or not that station is perceived to be higher than that of your subject.

Another way to invoke the Law of Dominance is by demonstrating master, or competence in your field. As a hypnotist, you can do this by being able to explain what hypnosis is, how it works, why it's not what most people perceive it to be, etc. All of these things demonstrate your knowledge and skill in hypnosis and therefore present you as an 'authority' on the subject. This perceived 'authority' helps to build trust and rapport with your client, allowing them to be more receptive to your suggestions and coaching advice.

Certifications, publication, videos, lectures, all of these things can be used to demonstrate authority with your clients. So do whatever you can to present yourself in a professional, confident and competent manner, and you may find that you have an easier time working with your clients.

That's all I have for now.
